My Software is refreshed Weekly so it is as new as the day you bought it. If so, why would you purchase mine? Downloading Garmin Software is a two step process: Download file then extract to MSD/SD card this process, if you are a computer novice could be daunting and may end up corrupting the file. PS: You can download this software that's specific to your device off of Garmin's website with an MSD/SD card. However, if you are experiencing performance issues or added an accessory especially Radar, Transducer or Auto Pilot, these are times you definitely need an update. Is it necessary? In all honesty, if your unit is working great leave it as is.
